About this blog
Well, hello there! First off, thank you for checking out Quarter Inch Adapter. This blog is a semester-long project that will aim to explore how new media (including social media, YouTube, and streaming services) affect the music industry and how we listen to music.
Some things to expect:
-How YouTube artists become popular
-Why artists do (or don’t) provide their music to streaming services
-Who controls how Independent (indie) artists make it onto the charts
My name is Jade and I am a 22-year-old senior attending West Virginia University, where I am studying Print Journalism with a minor in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Resources. When I’m not in the DJ booth of U92 The Moose (Wednesdays from 12 pm – 3 pm), I can be found in class or reading and writing about music.
I have my family to thank for such an interest in music. My mom has been taking me to concerts and festivals since before I was born (I consider my first concert the Grateful Dead show at Buckeye Lake in July of ’93 – I was born two months later). I’m a firm believer that music can get you through the tough times in your life. It has always been a passion of mine and I would like to imagine myself working for a music journal one day.
