As of 9 AM today, Sonos, a wireless speaker and headphone company, is now compatible with Apple Music. Unlike in the past, Apple is late to the game. Sonos is supported by Spotify, Tidal, Soundcloud, and Google Play Music.
Since Apple Music’s release seven months ago, Sonos users have been out of luck if they wanted to use their wireless speakers along with the streaming service. Up until today, they would have to hook up their headphones with a cord in order to use the streaming service. Users were able to help out the companies during the beta period by giving feedback to both Apple Music and Sonos.
So, why did it take so long for the integration when Apple Music came out last year? According to Buzzfeed, they wanted to get it just right.
“It’s important to get the integration right the first time out,” Cue told BuzzFeed News. “Apple has a high bar for this stuff; So does Sonos. Apple Music isn’t even 6 months old yet, so this really did not take much time at all.”
The only downfall? You have to be an Apple Music subscriber in order to use the service.
This is an exciting and new time for Apple Music and their subscribers. Until their partnership with Sonos, Apple Music subscribers were unable to use the streaming service outside of any Apple-made app.
